When I spoke at Affilicon in June, I was interviewed (on the spot) a few times. My first reaction when viewing these videos online was to pretend they never happened. In fact, I don’t think I even watched this whole video through (that’s real inspiring to get you to do so haha)

So I happened upon this video in a search the other day, and watch it to the end! This is a lot less painful with enounce / myspeed since most people sound much more intelligent when you speed them up, including yours truly.

Anyway, I guess enough time has passed that I don’t think I sound particularly intelligent, but … well, tell me what YOU think. I can take it. Really.

MORAL OF THE STORY: (especially if you are a target for being put on the spot, as any speaker at an event should be prepared for)

Have a few GREAT answers to questions that people typically want to know. How hard is that to do? Most interviewers will be flexible to direct the conversation where you want it to go, but if you throw in a few intelligent lines, it can hopefully gloss over the less Ahh and Umm moments.

I am working on my list of answers, but happy (eager?) to steal any great ones from you if you are willing to Share Below in the comments. Go for it!

I have a pretty healthy fascination with celebrities. In fact this following story seems 100% entirely normal, dontcha think?

I see the movie Stand by Me and really love it. I am obsessed with the main character Gordie Lachance. I want to ease his pain. Maybe a year later, I am sitting in a doctors office in Atlanta, and I am convinced that the boy sitting across from me is Gordie!

I call my brother and insist he hits the credits on the video. This was prehistoric times, so it required me to ask the doctors office to use their phone, and my brother had to take the VHS and fast forward to the end to find out. The answer is Wil Wheaton and it’s no match on the patient list. Not too obsessive, right?

Skip to decades later and I enter twitter preparing to conquer.. I check out the heavy users and when I see an avatar and the name @wilw .. somehow I just KNOW that it’s my Wil ! I am loving my gut instincts from way back that my crush from so long ago is now a tech geek! (and currently more of a celeb in that arena)

1. @evanlowenstein – you know – half of the identical twin duo who sing that hit song Crazy for this Girl, and the illustrious brother of yours truly.
2. @aplusk – Ashton kutcher – I have NEVER seen his work (except for Cheaper by the Dozen), but I love his holy tweets (lots of Kabbalah) and the work he has done with Demi
3. @mrskutcher – Demi Moore. I wish her tweets could talk, so I could hear her voice. Can I say that?
4. @johncmayer – John Mayer – still warming up, very few replies to other tweeters, but he is 140 characters of pleasure, very clever and witty
5. @the_real_shaq – Shaquille O’Neil – so unpretentious. The real shaq is REAL
6. @ewanmcgregor – Ewan Mcgregor – Scottish Moulin Rouge honey. Follow me dude.
7. @lancearmstrong – Lance Armstrong – You got to love hearing “getting the kids off to school” and then just back from a 6 hr ride – 110 miles. Very empowering!
8. @johncleese – John Cleese – One of the leading members of Monty Python. I love me my English humour!

New on my radar:

1. @coldplay – Coldplay – The band. I think their music is some of the hottest stuff out there, so I expect very sharp lyrical 140 character tweets.
2. @davejmathews – Dave Mathews – Ditto with above.

I have some questions for you:

Q: If you could communicate with a celebrity, who would you WANT to see?

Q: Celebrities can now speak for themselves – will the tabloids go out of business?

Q: Do you think the word celebrity will embrace a new definition with the lowly people able to access them SO DARN EASILY!?

6 characters had less than 30 minutes to share an engaging storyline involving all of them equally. When an issue arose, which it often did, the friends had to communicate, sometimes with brutal honesty… without sabotaging their relationship.

After spending too many years avoiding conflict at all costs, suddenly we were witnessing that Monica and Rachel could be at each other’s throats, (sometimes literally) and then be best friends again.

No hard feelings. Wow. That level of honesty may seem like it could only work on TV, but they were onto something….

I was enlightened, and intrigued.

Twitter, the home of 140 characters or less, brings this communication style more into the mainstream. Communication 2.0.

Our lives are sitcoms, we don’t have time for unnecessary chit chat. Twitter understands our fast paced lives, and allows us to decide who we want in our circle, woo them with our short tweets. Maybe become friends, or business partners. I have witnessed it all.

It’s my kind of instant gratification, say it like it is, a little bit (lot) narcissistic, allowing us to be voyeurs into the lives of people who would never give you their real phone number (hint..like MINE).

Just saying, if you have been missing me, you may find me there.

Are you using Twitter? If so, for what purposes and what have you discovered? I am a bit surprised how it started off as a Marketing tool and now is touted as the next possible Facebook.

Well, ignoring the fact that I have not been signed up to PPP long enough to be accepted (about 2 hours lol) and that I am doing this as a gratuitous gesture to the wonder that is JD, here is my part.
 
What does Johnny Depp have to do with Internet Marketing?
 
He got his fame by being a controversial character with integrity.
 
He maintained it by adding value to the users experience.
 
He is a true Maven in his market, and has even successfully reinvented himself from being a funky volatile punk to a funky loving father. He is an artist to be watched to see what he will do next.
 
I have no other reasons to be watching him. None Whatsoever. No really.

Andrea Michelle Lowenstein. I grew up in a pretty well connected family in my hometown, and even a boy I dated in high school told me he felt great pleasure in just knowing that ‘Andrea Lowenstein’ liked him .. Now I am the geek, but back then I was attracted to them!
 
The Yager addition came with marriage but I am still legally Lowenstein.. I just love that name.
 
My favorite author is Pat Conroy. He wrote the ‘Lords of Discipline’, ‘The Great Santini’, and ‘The Prince of Tides’.
 
Imagine reading a book by your favorite author and the main character shares your last name… and is the last 2 written words of the Movie / BOOK??
 

 
How AWESOME is that?? Ok, so it could be someone other than Nick Nolte, but he was once the sexiest man alive according to People magazine, so thats good enough for me .
 
What does this have to do with Internet Marketing?
 
You could say affiliate marketing, had I been resourceful enough to place the links to the movie, so I could make a commission should someone choose to buy – although I didnt do that.
 
You could say ‘Branding’ – the importance of name selection and using it properly. To have the emotional build up of a novel and movie resort to a single word being the last 2 words read/spoken is pretty heavy duty and is expected to resonate.. I was definitely branded as a ‘Lowenstein’ when growing up – for better or worse (oh it was Better!)
 
You could say that I am using keywords to direct traffic to my page.. for when all my old friends and classmates do a search on me.. they will find me on this page. Hey Guys! (they are all wondering.. was it me she went out with?? maybe!)
 
You could say that this has nothing to do with Internet Marketing, but when a post takes as long to complete as the last few have, sometimes you need to lighten it up!

I look at web sites and they SCREAM AT ME with what they are lacking and how much more they could be earning.. Just because a business took it ‘online’, does not make them internet marketers…
 
I know there are big time companies that charge big time money for dressing in suits and using big time lingo to make you big time lost and you say… “help = here is my big time money – just make it work”.
 
There are those who can actually do it (use their IM skills to make themselves money), and others who are better at preaching it. I am not neglecting the former as an option, by any means… but I really want to do that so it can be bring me more credibility to do the latter more successfully..
 
Before I started my online business, I was actually very successful at hosting moving / estate sales in my local town. I could juggle a crowd of 100+ with no problems, and the best part of each job was that I jumped in with 2 feet, got very into it.. but then when the job was done, it was over.. I received my money and moved on to the next one. I am not quite sure why I have been sabotaging this business that was so good to me – maybe the drug of working online + having small children helped to assuage the guilt of leaving so much money on the table to try my hand at this game.
 
However, this same idea is what I now welcome…. Give me your problem, let me solve it for you, take my money.. and NEXT..
 
I mean that in the nicest way .

Squiddo..

 

Not a likely name for a successful site. Their logo is an image of a tadpole of sorts?? Gee maybe its really a Squiddo and I have no idea what a squiddo is.. DUH 

 

 

Yet they, along with MySpace, etc… are completely changing the way the web works. Now its all about the user experience.  The first user experience style site was really Amazon. They offered readers to post reviews of the books they purchased, and of course, they offer this now for every product. This was such a unique feature at the time, and it has since given birth to soo many sites that people probably would give all the credit to YouTube as being the introducer of this concept.

I wrote this mile long post about MySpace with all the juicy details and links to how to make your own page, and add friends, and then my computer froze, and I lost it all. I got so annoyed that I could not rewrite it.  I know Myspace is like the 5th most visited site on the web, but I find it dull.

 

Am I showing my age?

 

I know there is tons of money to be made on MySpace, and the good news is that these kids that are signing up in droves (over 200,000 per day) will not be between 15-30 forever.. they are growing up before our eyes and MySpace will figure out a way to keep them in their grasp.. hence only more money making opportunities will arise and the faster you get in… well you know the rest.
