The biggest key to success selling products is the copy, not the product itself.

I think it’s very important to become good at writing copy and not outsourcing it, seeing as it’s the most important part of selling your product.

Hiring a good copywriter can often times cost thousands of dollars. If you get good at copywriting, regardless of what product you are selling, you can make money.

I am crap at copy and I cannot afford to pay thousands to professional copy writers. I understand your point though, if the copy is crap you will get crap as a result. Thanks.

Guys.. perhaps you dont feel the pain of some of my readers, since you both are actually GOOD at copy. You can rely on your own resources. You can get away with the “oh let me just do it myself!”. You are both very fortunate.

As to who writes my copy… read what I wrote here over a year ago – http://andreayager.com/the-best-copy-tip-ever/ – when I do it properly, it just writes itself. Then I have a few marketers whom I admire, and I usually bounce it off them for critique and occasionally reassurance. Then I walk away again… and do a final edit.

Again. Lets talk about those who DO NOT have these skills. Yes, it costs money, but so does web design (done well), so does product creation, so does everything… you pay for cheap copy, you may get mediocre results. I believe you would agree that copy may even trump everything when it comes to selling online. All the other elements are important, but it’s the COPY that is getting that desperate person to whip out their credit card. Ahh… sounds HOT.

It doesn’t always mean that the more you spend, the better you will do, but if you hide behind cheap services and bad attitude, then what can you expect?

i totally agree with Mr X. Well, I agree with both of you i guess.

I think copy is hugely important. More like a Bond movie without gadgets, but that’s just me.

but mr x makes a point that i very much relate to. whenever i hire out someone to do creative work for me, i end up holding their hand or being less than impressed with the result. either way, it costs me way more in the long run.

outsourcing is great as a time saver, but when it comes to creative, it just doesn’t make sense. you don’t see me outsourcing my songs do you?

Copywriters can be expensive Andrea. And while there are cheap ones they are usually crap.

I do outsource some writing but I know I can nearly always do better – so if an important email needs written, I write it.
